5 reasons why denim will never go out of style

Did you ever think about why jeans never go out of style? Well.. we did! It is definitely among the most versatile and practical fabrics, beloved by generations after generations. Starting with old time soldiers and railway workers and since the mid 1950 by any fashion follower in the world.

Often the term “jeans” refers to a particular style of trousers, called “blue jeans” and invented by Jacob Davis and Levi Strauss in 1873. Starting in the 1950s, jeans, originally designed for cowboys, became popular among teenagers, especially members of the greaser subculture. Historic brands include Levi’s, Lee, and Wrangler.

The word “denim” comes from the name of a sturdy fabric called serge, originally made in Nîmes, France, by the Andre family. Denim was originally called serge de Nîmes, it was then soon shortened to Denim. A different theory says that jeans are named after the city of Genoa in Italy, a place where cotton corduroy, called either jean or jeane, was manufactured.
So, with this brief introduction in mind, here’s 5 reasons why denim is here to stay:

1. Very, very durable

Durability is why you can still wear your mother’s old school jeans combined into a retro outfit. Or why your dad probably has a jacket from when he was young somewhere in the back of his closet.

Originally, denim was used by workers. They wore denim clothing because of its durability – it was strong and ideal for their daily jobs. Denim doesn’t wear out easily, making it a good fabric in the long run.

While denim jeans were originally invented for gold prospectors during the 1800s Gold Rush, the trend didn’t stop there. Due to their sheer strength and durability, many working-class men and women took notice of these pants, buying and adding them to their own wardrobes. This spurred the first real fashion trend of denim jeans. It wasn’t long before other companies began producing their own jeans.

2. Easy to match

Denim is incredibly easy to match with other garments, thanks largely in part to its simply yet stylish vibe. Traditional denim colors like light blue and indigo go with just about any outfit style.

If you have a tendency to spend half an hour or longer trying to find something to wear in the mornings, perhaps you should switch to jeans. You can easily find a suitable top and shoes to sport with a pair of high-quality jeans.

Think about all the pants you own besides your jeans, can you style them in less than five minutes? The answer is likely no as so many bottoms need specific pieces to match them in order to look normal. Jeans, not the case. Slap together whatever you want because jeans have no rules!

3. Versatile

To say jeans are versatile would be an understatement. You can literally wear them for just about any occasion, big or small, casual or formal. Business casual attire, for instance, often calls for dark-colored jeans instead of traditional suit pants or slacks.

Darker colors offer a more formal appearance that enhances the wearer’s appearance in a more dressier look. But whether you are attending a business meeting or just running into town to do errands, you can’t go wrong with a pair of high-quality jeans.

Their versatility is simply unmatched in this department, which is yet another reason why they are so popular. These are just a few of the many reasons why jeans are the #1 choice of pants by millions of men and women throughout the world.

Take into consideration your endless options for styles, washes and fits — the dream of being able to create a thousand different looks with one single pair of pants is entirely possible.

4. Easy to Maintain

Jeans are incredibly easy to maintain, requiring very little other than an occasional washing and drying. In fact, some denim experts even suggest washing your jeans only when they are dirty. Whether or not you heed this advice is up to you. Regardless, though, jeans are low maintenance and easy to care for.

It may sound kind of weird,  but jeans are one of the few bottoms that you can get away with not washing after you wear them. Many jean lovers know that the more you wash them, the more wear and tear they may take on.
Also, stains are easy to get rid of or hide for the day when you are wearing jeans — unless you are wearing white jeans, in which case we applaud your bravery.

5. Endless styles

Gone are the days of just wide leg and boot cut. Now we have an interesting array of styles that are able to fit into any particular event you are shopping for. With bell bottoms back in action along with the usual high-waisted, skinny, and boyfriend jeans, choosing a style has become just as important as choosing a wash. Besides, no one ever said too much choice in fashion was a bad thing.

Denim is also iconic. Proof is that it has had its moment for every generation. Denim is available in almost every color. That helps to not only spice up your outfits, but add some contrast to your wardrobe.

So now that you learned more about jeans, tell us: which is your favourite denim piece and why?
