The brightest stars in television gathered in Los Angeles on last Sunday for the 71st annual Primetime Emmy Awards. And if the highlight is usually the red carpet, well this year, the carpet was purple. All the more reasons for celebs to show off their best looks.
This year’s Emmy was nothing short of glamorous: from extravagant necklines and embellished looks, see what some of our favourite stars wore to celebrate TV’s biggest night.
The Euphoria star looked sensational in her emerald green Vera Wang gown. The actress made her Emmy Awards debut with fiery red hair and a velvet green gown with a sheer bodice and silk skirt with a sky-high split. The outfit was inspired from the DC Comic’s Batman’s love interest, Poison Ivy.
She added a diamond bangle and long earrings – both by Cartier – and matched her shoes to her gown, making for perhaps her best red-carpet moment to date.
The supermodel ditched her blonde locks for her natural brunette hue, and chose one of the coolest looks of the night in the form of a floral Richard Quinn gown with latex detail. She let the bold design take centre stage by keeping her jewellery to a minimum and her hair in a simple bun. Just like its runway styling, Kendall opted to keep the black latex turtleneck underneath the rose print mermaid gown.
The model attended the award show with her sister Kim Kardashian West, who opted for a classic black gown accessorized with silver chains and a cross necklace.
Sophie Turner’s look at this year’s Emmy was one of her best yet. She went for a princess vibe, arriving to the ceremony dressed in a pale pink sleeveless gown by Louis Vuitton, paired with silver heeled sandals, a diamond choker and slicked-back hair.
That night, Sophie was nominated in the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series category. Sadly, she didn’t win that one, but she did take home an award for Outstanding Drama series and accepted the award with the rest of the GoT cast at the end of the ceremony.
Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams also had one of her best-dressed moments ever at the Emmys. She looked effortlessly cool in a black custom-made JW Anderson dress with embellished touches, which she teamed with statement heels, and a new brunette bob.
Maisie’s black asymmetrical dress is a custom design by Reuben Selby and was made by JW Anderson. The dress is elegant, but the asymmetry and black color gave it a bit of edge and moodiness,” Richman said. “We wanted to take Maisie in a more mature direction as she is exploring new roles now that Game of Thrones has come to an end. The first step was changing her hair color from pink to a natural brunette.”
Not only did Emilia Clarke made a statement by wearing her hair completely different (- and also bringing back hair extensions), but the actress proved once again that simplicity is the best when it comes to fashion. She wore a navy blue Valentino gown that boasted two pleated front panels that dipped into a very low V in the front. It featured a tie around the waist, pockets (she’s our hero) and two side slits in the skirt. After mentioning J.Lo in her insta-post, fans are assuming that she took inspiration to J.Lo’s iconic green Versace dress from the 2000 Grammys. Clarke accessorized with tear-drop shaped, statement earrings.
Billy made LGBT history in a scene-stealing look. The Pose star, nominated for Lead Actor in a drama series wore a disco-inspired outfit by Michael Kors, a custom hat by a Brittish designer Stephen Jones. His shimmery ensemble included a bejeweled pinstripe suit, extra-long scarf as a tie, and platform shoes.
Porter got the idea for his ensemble when he and his stylist, Sam Ratelle, attended Kors’s Studio 54-inspired Fall/Winter 2019 show. So this was a glorious “little ’70s disco throwback moment,” the actor explained to The Hollywood Reporter.
Ed Danson & Mary Steenburgen
The “Good Place” star and his wife were just beaming on the purple carpet. Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen looked as smitten as high-school sweethearts as they posed for photos on the purple carpet at the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
71-year-old Danson, who is up for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, looked dapper in a black suit and tie.
Sometimes, just sometimes before the wedding, a bridal gown and a tux will get intimate. It happens. It’s natural. This is exactly what happened with this outfit. It is outstanding, it is outrageous and we love it! The This Is Us star donned a tuxedo-inspired Azzi & Osta ensemble, complete with a long train.
